the gas tax

High prices at the pump is linked to a record-high rate of taxation. In Chicago the tax is about twenty percent of the Chicago price. That' a good reason to go to another state to get gas. Taxes on gasoline go ignored for the most part. There is an astounding 10 levels of taxation.

The Civic Federation says that on the $4 a gallon gasoline price, 79.2 cents go to taxes in Chicago. Every time the price goes up, the tax goes up with it.
