State Senators Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) and Dan Rutherford (R-Pontiac) are planning a state prison tour. This is to promote a long-term plan on prison closures. Announcements of prison closures in Illinois have come arbitrarily. During the past three years, the Blagojevich Administration has proposed, without any analysis or planning, the closure of at least three different facilities.
None of the closures took place, and the announcements had been viewed as political retribution rather than good policy making. The two seantors are urging the Governor to enact a plan that would be discussed by a special panel. Also proposed is a moratorium on prison closures.
